COMSATS University Islamabad GPA & CGPA Calculator

Guide
How COMSATS GPA and CGPA are calculated
COMSATS University Islamabad grades absolutely. Your letter grade comes from fixed percentage thresholds. 85% and above is an A, 80% is an A-, and 50% is the pass line. Your grade depends only on your own marks, never on how the rest of your section did. That is why this COMSATS GPA calculator asks for the letter grade you were given instead of curving anything.
Each letter is worth a grade point on the COMSATS 4.00 scale. A semester's GPA is the average of those points weighted by credit hours. Your CGPA is the same average across every course you have finished so far. A four-credit course moves your GPA much more than a one-credit lab does.
Enter one row per course, semester by semester. The calculator shows each semester's SGPA beside the CGPA up to that point, so you can see where a weak semester started to hurt. You can also export the whole thing as a transcript-style PDF.
The Formula
SGPA = Σ (Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Credit Hours) // one semesterCGPA = Σ (Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Credit Hours) // all semestersAn F is worth 0.00 grade points, but its credit hours still count in the divisor. That is why one failed course pulls a CGPA down harder than students expect. Results are rounded to two decimal places.
Worked Examples
Example 1: one semester's SGPA
A first-semester load of 13 credit hours, using COMSATS grade points.
| Programming Fundamentals, 4 CH, A (4.00) | 4 × 4.00 = 16.00 |
|---|---|
| Calculus I, 3 CH, B+ (3.33) | 3 × 3.33 = 9.99 |
| Applied Physics, 3 CH, B (3.00) | 3 × 3.00 = 9.00 |
| English Composition, 3 CH, C+ (2.33) | 3 × 2.33 = 6.99 |
| Total grade points | 16.00 + 9.99 + 9.00 + 6.99 = 41.98 |
| Total credit hours | 4 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 13 |
Example 2: CGPA across two semesters
Carrying the 3.23 semester above into a second semester of 16 credit hours at 3.50.
| Semester 1 points | 3.23 × 13 = 41.98 |
|---|---|
| Semester 2 points | 3.50 × 16 = 56.00 |
| Cumulative points | 41.98 + 56.00 = 97.98 |
| Cumulative credit hours | 13 + 16 = 29 |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is COMSATS grading absolute or relative?
Absolute. Your letter grade is decided by fixed percentage bands, so 85% is an A whether the class average was 40% or 80%. Nothing is curved against your section. That is the main difference from relative-grading universities like FAST-NUCES.
Does a failed course still count towards my COMSATS CGPA?
Yes. An F is worth 0.00 grade points, but the course's credit hours stay in the divisor. So it hurts twice: you earn no points, and you have more credit hours to divide by. Enter the F as normal and the calculator handles it.
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA at COMSATS?
GPA, shown here as SGPA, is the weighted average for one semester. CGPA is the same weighted average across every course you have finished. This calculator shows both: an SGPA under each semester, and the running CGPA up to and including that semester.
Why is A- worth 3.66 and B- worth 2.66 rather than 3.67 and 2.67?
Those are the values in the COMSATS scheme this calculator uses, the same numbers ComsatsPlus has used since launch. Some generic HEC-style tables round to 3.67 and 2.67 instead. Across a full degree the difference is under 0.01 CGPA, but we keep COMSATS's own numbers so the result matches your transcript.
How do I enter labs?
Give each lab its own row. A COMSATS lab has its own credit hours, usually one, and gets its own letter grade on the transcript, so do not fold it into the theory course. If you want to work out the internal marks behind that lab grade, use the Internal Marks calculator instead.
Do repeated courses replace the old grade in this calculator?
No. The calculator averages exactly the rows you enter. If your department's repeat policy replaces the earlier attempt, delete the old row and keep only the new grade. If both attempts appear on your transcript, enter both. Check your student handbook to see which applies to you.
